Half and Full Day Llama Treks

Category Details Recommendations
Acclimatizing Acclimatization is more efficient when minimizing physical activity and staying hydrated. Activity altitudes range from 2900–3900 mts (9515–12800 ft). Half Day: Book after 1.5 days at altitude.
Full Day: Book after 2 days at altitude.
Sun Protection UV levels are high (10–16 UV Index from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Sunscreen, sunglasses, chapstick, full-rim hat, long-sleeve UV shirt.
Insect Protection Insects may cause allergic reactions (itching, swelling, rash). Use insect repellent. Wear pants and closed shoes (no sandals).
Rain Protection Rain season: November to April. Weather can vary any time. Rain jacket and pants or long raincoat. Waterproof hiking boots.
Clothing Weather can change frequently; temperatures range from 5–23°C (41–74°F). Layered trekking clothes from short sleeves to fleece jacket.
Shoes Trails may be rocky, slippery, steep, dusty or muddy. Wear comfortable waterproof trekking shoes or boots. Avoid new shoes.
Trekking Poles Helpful for stability on uneven and steep trails. Recommended for those not used to outdoor trekking.
Backpack Trekking can cause fatigue, especially with altitude and weather. Use a small, light day pack to carry essentials and medicine.
Child Carrier Children may tire on steep or uneven terrain. A carrier minimizes parents' load and allows children to rest.
Water Bottle No access to running drinking water in the mountains. Bring your own bottle. Water refills available at start and picnic station.
Camera No access to chargers or batteries during excursions. Use your camera safely, avoiding use on steep/narrow paths.
Toilet No facilities on trails. A urinary toilet is at the Base Camp (Half/Full Day only). Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products. Leave no waste behind.
Tips Gratuities are not included in the visit. Bring cash/change to tip your hosts if you wish.
Crafts Local crafts may be available for purchase during some visits. Support high-Andean communities by purchasing handmade crafts.
