Guild of Llama Farmers

As a result of years of continuous work with various families of llama breeders, farmers and artisans the Guild of Llama Breeders with members from eight different communities was formed in February 2017 for a better organization of the project reach.

The goal of the Guild is to promote the use and breeding of pack llamas and a responsible and organized tourism in the Urubamba Mountain Range. Each community guild is part of an Inter-Community Network of llama farmers promoted by the Llama Pack Project to support the development of high-Andean communities and the conservation of mountain ecosystems.

  • Healthy llama breeding practices allow families to improve their llamas to provide an eco-friendly and sustainable pack service.

  • Sustainable tourism skills allow llama farmers to use their animals productively and generate an alternative income to help secure food and health safety.

  • Efficient use of natural resources allow families to adapt to climate change effects and through environmental literacy gain negotiation skills to protect their land.
